Coming into the engineering college we just get into the pace of semesters. Things start moving with great speed as semesters pass on by. Let’s pay a little bit attention on the ultimate goal for which we as students took admission into Engineering.
Here we are going to discuss about some really very good campus placement tips. Indeed everyone needs a job at the end of the day. These campus placement tips are planned in such a way that success will be surely yours.
We in India choose engineering in order to have a ‘Bright Future’. But now days the problem that persists is that only 8% of engineering students are employable & only 15% can be made or trained into being employable. We have tried to come out with a solution to this problem. We will discuss some potential things that engineering students should try to excel in. We have a list of some measured campus placement tips. Try to stick on to them from 2nd year onwards for a successful career ahead & a sure short campus placement.
How to Prepare for Placement – Campus Placement Tips & Tricks
1. Developing Good Technical knowledge of your Subject –
Yes, Good Technical knowledge, that means having a good command over all the basic technical subjects. Here is list of some of the most asked subjects in technical interview for common branches.
From 2nd Year onwards we start with the core subjects. Having a good grip on those subjects will you to crack the interview while campus placements? You must know that “Early bird catches the worm”. Besides this if you will keep on preparing for your technical subjects & keep practicing them from the start it will not only help you during Technical Interview, but also for qualifying National Level Exams like Gate, PSU entrance tests, etc. So always focus on basics, focus on having good foundation of your subjects.
|Computer Science & Engineering||DBMS, OOPs Concept, Data Structures, Operating System, Programming Languages, etc.|
|Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering||Network Analysis, Digital & Analog Communication Systems, Microprocessors, Control Systems, Electromagnetic Waves etc & Some Basic Programming Concepts.|
|Mechanical Engineering||Material Engineering, Solid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, MOS, IC Engine, Auto CAD & Basics of Programming Languages.|
|Information Technology||DBMS, OOPs Concept, Programming languages, Analog Electronics, Data Structures, etc.|
|Civil Engineering||Strength of Materials, Soil Mechanics, Engineering Surveying, Building materials, Reinforced concrete, Structural Analysis, etc.|
|Electrical Engineering||Working principle behind all machines, Electrical Machines, Power Systems, Electromagnetic Theory, etc.|
2. Communication skills –
Communication skills are the most important assets that someone has. If you have good communication skills then this is the best key to open door for qualifying an interview. To maintain good communication skills we need to keep practicing by speaking in English at home, with family & neighbours around.
Campus placements become easy when we are able to express ourselves in a decent way. Good Communication skills can be developed by practice only.
Try to maintain an aura that you can sell things well. Yes you have to be a good seller, to sell your skills in-front of the company which has come to hire you. Remember performance matters, and for good performance Confident is indeed required. Now here communication skills does not mean that you have to be fluent and very smart in presenting yourselves through talks, also an average speaker who speaks well will grab a good opportunity, just keep practicing well. Also Digital Eklavya offers you a wonderful soft skill training course to help out with this. So you can get ready for upcoming campus placements within short time interval.
3. Aptitude Solving –
Lets keep this thing simple, while in 2nd year semester many students start going to coaching’s for GATE, CAT or GRE respectively. Whatever you want to do or have planned for, having good aptitude is must. Now students make aptitude a big issue but it is not, it’s just basic math we have been studying since school days. When it comes to campus placements I would recommend you start practicing little bit of exercises from the book:
- R. S. Agrawal – Do these things on weekends. Once you are comfortable with this book as this covers all basics you can increase the level. Next I would suggest you to go with the book.
- Arun Sharma’s book on aptitude – This book is especially for CAT students. But when you will see the aptitude questions for all reputed MNC’s you will find the contents from this book. An early start will help you to be good in aptitude till the end of your 6th semester. Practice aptitude it will be great. You will be in the range of cracking all good companies. Cracking campus placements sessions will be your cup of tea. Just keep on following these simple campus placement tips.
4. Developing Verbal & Logical reasoning Skills –
Logical reasoning of engineering students is basically good, but sometimes you need to think out of the box. Your future recruiter always wants someone who is capable of taking decisions for the welfare of the team & company at large. As you want to focus on campus placements start preparing beforehand only on these topics related to verbal & logical reasoning:
- Basic Grammar
- Sentence Correction
- Passage & Abstraction
- Letter & Symbol Series
- Pattern Completion / Recognization
- Diagrammatic Reasoning
- Deductive Reasoning
- Abstract Reasoning, etc
Again I would recommend you to keep this part simple. Start practicing questions from the Verbal & Non Verbal reasoning course book of R.S. Agrawal which is fair enough to build a good foundation. These campus placement tips are sorted well enough to keep one thing in mind that cracking any recruitment drive should be easy for you.
Verbal is basically having sense of English Grammar. This basically judges our sense of reasoning concepts framed in words. It is basically to test your constructive thinking rather fluency & language. So early start is the best for this part.
5. Make some good projects on your own rather than waiting for Final year Projects –
Everyone around in your circle & your college will give you many campus placement tips. But this one is something I felt beneficial in my own case. Make it a target to have some small self made projects with you beforehand, whose concepts are clear to you & you can talk about it. Explain about it to the interview panel when asked, what here I want to say is just simply. These projects will actually spice-up your resume. One of the best advice or campus placement tips is this. Your projects will highlight about your expertise. So why not doing a good project while in third year also? Go for it!
6. Vocational Training –
Vocational training is one of the most important things in the engineering curriculum. Irony today is students don’t take vocational trainings seriously. If you have to focus on campus placements then do focus on the trainings you undergo.
Vocational training should be the time for skill building. Core skills like programming, knowledge of technical fields & equipment’s, etc are best provided while you start the training part. So choose the field wisely & being sincere during the training period is important. Good vocational trainings if opted while the engineering curriculum adds crisp while you are interviewed. So mark it, every step counts. Opt for trainings what industry actually requires. Keep the research mode on. Go for something new that will be best. If you will be consistent & keep on following these campus placement tips surely success will be in your hand.
7. Try to get into Good Internships –
Try to get into some good internship in reputed firms of your stream. Having an internship fetches you more opportunities as you have on sight experience of working. A fresher is a new comer for the company. But also being a fresher if you will be showcasing the practical knowledge gained during internship that will fetch higher points in your favor. Campus placements are something where students come in bulk to get hired. But not everyone is hired. Be special to be an opportunist. Internship always increases a candidate’s value in front of the employer. You will get advices from many but this is one of the major campus placement tips that will fetch you up with real time opportunity.
8. Try to make atleast one Programming Language Strong –
Students with computer science background have good knowledge of languages. For rest of the students if they want to go on for IT based companies having knowledge of atleast one programming language like C or Python will be great. As now there are so many ideas coming out & so many things to do, you just keep calm & focus on what you want to do. But remember that when any IT based company will come to hire you they will expect that you have basic knowledge of programming. Having knowledge of any programming language will surely help you crack campus placements.
9. Start Dressing Well & Carrying yourself well –
This is also known as SELF GROOMING. You must have heard about this that “Pictures speak louder than words”. So let’s start preparing to meet the prospective employer beforehand only, dressing smartly & maintaining an Aura around will help your employer to have a good mindset about you. Also if we carry ourselves well, we too feel confident & good enough. Always choose formal & functional clothes from your wardrobe. Something loud & funky should always be kept out of mind while getting ready for campus placements.
10.Try to Publish One Research Paper in a known Technical journal before sitting for Campus Placement –
Yes if in a span of time slowly start required you get into some projects; then you will go with the step-by-step process of doing the documentation the research work required. One of the best campus placement tips that I found was this that if you have already published a research paper it will easily highlight your strong technical part.
This basically adds a star to your curriculum vitae. It shows you are aware & interested in technical happenings. Publishing a research paper in a good journal will not only make you feel confident, will also help you out to gain exact knowledge of your field. This is an advantage & will surely impress the recruiter.
“Keep practicing, opt the things, plan them well rather mugging up & stay confident, Prepare a well defined & short resume for the post you are applying & always keep things simple.”
